Pride & Ownership: A Firefighter's Love of the Job, 1st Edition, Rick Lasky

Pride and Ownership holds no punches. Chief Rick Lasky takes a hard look at the fire service and finds it short on the only element that makes it effective: passion. Chief Lasky gives an upfront and honest criticism about the need to reignite the love o fthe job on every level, from chiefs on down. Key Features: History and traditions of the fire service with overviews of some of th most important fire service leaders, Detailed explanations of ceremonies for all ocasions from a firefighter's initiation to retirement, Over 150 photos displaying the rites and ceremonies, Helpful appendices full of sample documents for fire company use.

Finally, a "White Hat" who gets it...they are a rare breed. Chief Lasky's book illustrates why being a firefighter is the best career in the world. He is forward thinking, but established in a foundation of old school values which gives him direction. All this is found in his book. This is an easy read, but a very complex subject. If you are on the 'Job', this is a must read - over and over again. Fall in love with the job all over - and be proud of what you do!

Outstanding book by Chief Lasky... gets to the heart of why we as firefighters do what we do. Serves as a reminder for the service as a whole to hold onto our core values which is what distinguishes our profession from so many others out there. An outstanding read, should be essential material on promotional reading lists if it isn't already!

Chief Lasky tells us what each of us was thinking. As a firefighter, we love what we do and why we do our job. This book is the kind of book you read through in a couple of days and learn from for a couple of lifetimes. Anyone who has a lackluster attitude needs to read this and realize that there is more to the service than just showing to work on time and going home when its your turn. Remembering that this is a family is the number one point that comes across in this book. Thanks Chief Lasky!

Good book for all levels of the fire department. It covers everything from the rookie to chief officers to fire buffs and more. Wide variety of topics such as a Fire Engineering usually has.
