About the Author
Gwynne Richards has over 25 years of experience in warehouse management and logistics. He runs courses on warehouse management for professional organizations in the UK and lectures at the University of Warwick and the University of Aston.

This book is a technical guide to managing warehouse operations management systems. The author is a consultant who understands logistics and has gathered data for the industry of warehouse management systems in Europe and the United States. The book goes into: the warehouse manager's roles, areas for increasing productivity, ways to resource the warehouse, time management issues, and goes over trends in the logistics industry.

For anyone not in the business, it is good to know that warehouses are part of the supply chain of goods for the supplier, manufacturer, retailers or other companies. The book offers case studies, pull-outs and information on how to run and manage a warehouse. There are graphs, charts, profiles and examples, and it helps the reader to understand how the warehouse runs and operates.

The book takes the reader from beginning to end in discussing information necessary to understand the maintenance and management of a warehouse. I enjoyed the information on resourcing the warehouse. This was regarding receiving products to the warehouse and handling of products before they are delivered to an end-user. This process includes taking inventory of goods on a truck prior to delivery to a client, determining accurate records as to the volume of the goods, measuring variations of goods during the day, monitoring daily activity variance, and how to manage work shifts to resource all of this information and these products to consumers. I never knew that the intake of products happens usually in the morning and that activity does not occur on even blocks of time during the day - with the usual case being that 80% of the orders put onto trucks happen in the late shift in some cases.

The most interesting idea after reading the book is that most goods are passed through warehouses in the United States and Europe using the strategies and techniques outlined in the book. This book is recommended for anyone who is a Project Manager in the transportation industry and anyone who wants to become a manager in a warehouse or other large storage area.

A comprehensive guide for beginners. It covers most aspect of the warehouse operations. Good examples are provided. A highly recommended book.

I received this book right away and had no problems with the shipment. The person that I bought it for was very pleased with it. It covers all aspects of the warehousing business and it is worth the price. Thank you very much.
