Operations Management (Operations and Decision Sciences), 11th Edition, William Stevenson

Dr. Stevenson is an associate professor of Decision Sciences in the College of Business at Rochester Institute of Technology. He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in production/operations management, management science, quality concepts, and quality applications. He is the author of textbooks in management science, statistics, as well as production/operations management. His articles have appeared in Management Science and Decision Sciences. He also serves as a consultant to the New York State Regents External Degree program. His current research interests are in quality applications. Dr. Stevenson received a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, and an M.B.A. and a Ph.D. in production/operations management from Syracuse University.

I'm about half way through the book. I will update my review after I finish the book. For a highly quantitative subject matter like operations management, it reads like a history book. For the most part, if you can get through the explanation, you will understand the mechanics of the calculations. The chapters are dense with many concepts and functional formulas and calculations. It even goes into explanation of how to do calculations in excel. However, the book does jump around from topic to topic. You won't have a clear picture of what operations management really is from this book. You will walk away with fragments of knowledge. This book serves as an introduction to decision making, forecasting, etc.

This was my first reading of such a lengthy textbook that also incorporates principles of managerial accounting, finance, and economics along with project management. The course I was taking was only six weeks long, and I assure you that in-depth study and mastery of the material takes longer. It was a nice balance of theory and application in formula and calculation. I found the text well laid out and easy to follow in most areas, as the author does a superb job of keeping description and explanation as simple as possible. I heartily recommend this book for anyone serious about the study of operations management.

This was a requirement for a college class I am taking and the college bookstore was charging double the price I purchased it here for.

It arrived earlier than expected.

Easy to sign in and work through, The system is set up in an ideal way, that you watch what to do, then perform the task with directions, and finally, do the task yourself, so comprehending the material is almost fool proof. However, anybody using this to learn from with any knowledge of computers will find it too simplistic. The material does eventually go further in depth, but consumes a lot of time getting there.

I know what I want to write but I'm not sure just how to word it. This book provides you with a ton of key phrases in a variety of areas that you can massage enough to fit your specific needs. Saves a lot of time.

I've been using this guide for the past 25 years, since it was first recommended to me as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army. I have gotten so much use out of this book. I was so pleased to see that it gets revised and updated. The current version is fantastic. A must have if you are pursing career advancement.
